My ex girlfriend blocked me on everything: what it means and what to do
Your ex girlfriend blocked you on everything. A block is a boundary, not a puzzle. Here is what it means, what never to do and how to use 30 days.

When an ex girlfriend blocks you, she is setting a boundary: for now, she wants no access to you. It is not a puzzle to solve, and it is not a verdict on your whole future. Respect it, don't look for workarounds, and spend the thirty days on yourself.
When your ex girlfriend blocks you, she is setting a boundary: for now, she does not want access to you. It hurts, but it is not a puzzle to solve and it is not a verdict on your whole future.
The only useful response is to respect it, and to treat the silence she has handed you as the start of your thirty days. Here is what a block can mean, what you must not do, and what to do with the time.
Why did my ex girlfriend block me?
I have seen three main reasons. You cannot tell from outside which one is yours, and that is fine, because the right response is the same for all three.
| Reason | What it often looks like | What it asks of you |
|---|---|---|
| She is protecting herself | A block after long messages, repeated messages, or a plea she found hard to read. | Stop adding to the pile. |
| She is angry | A block after an argument or something said in the heat of it. | Give it time. Do not defend yourself by message. |
| She is trying to stop herself checking | A block with no fight, often after a calm, sad breakup. | Don't read it as rejection. Keep your own distance too. |
The first reason is the most common one I see with men who panicked. When you send many messages, the block is her way of getting a quiet evening back. The second is anger, and anger cools faster when it has nothing to push against. The third is the one men miss: some people block because they do not trust themselves not to look, or not to reply.
The Gottman Institute describes a pattern called the pursuer–distancer dynamic: the more one partner pursues, the more the other withdraws (Gottman Institute). A block is withdrawal at its highest setting. Do not respond with more pursuit.
What should you never do after being blocked?
Do not look for a way around it. Every workaround turns a hurt ex into an ex who feels unsafe, and that is a hard door to reopen. Specifically:
- No new accounts. Not a second profile, not a borrowed phone, not a different number.
- No messages through friends. Not "tell her I'm sorry," not "just see how she is," not asking them what she is saying about you.
- No other channels. Not email, not a work account, not a letter, not a dating app.
- No turning up. Not her work, her gym, her street, or "accidentally" at the place she goes on Fridays.
- No posts aimed at her. A story or a song lyric that she is meant to see is contact by another route.
Each one tells her the block did not hold, and that the man on the other side cannot take no. If you want her to see something different one day, she has to see a man who can.
If it helps, read the seven mistakes after a breakup. Most men who get blocked have made at least three of them, and none is fatal if you stop today.
What does it mean if she unblocks you?
Less than you think. It is not a green light, not a verdict and not proof that silence worked.
She might have unblocked you because she is calmer. Because she needs to sort out logistics. Because keeping up the wall was tiring. Or by accident. You cannot know, and trying to find out is just surveillance with a nicer name.
What it does not mean: that she wants you back, that you may message her now, or that your plan worked. So what do you do? Nothing, at first. Do not message the minute it happens. If she writes, reply the same day, not the same minute, with two or three warm, brief lines, and do not reopen the relationship conversation. If she does not write, stay silent until day 30 and then use the readiness test in what to text your ex after no contact.
Is a block the same as no contact?
Not quite. Silence you choose is not the same as silence done to you. The block makes it easy to avoid texting her, but it does not do any of the work: the craving, the replaying, the checking of whether she is still blocked.
That last one is the trap. Opening an app to see if the block is still there is checking, and every check is another hit of the thing that keeps you sick. Mute her everywhere on your side. Delete the thread. Remove the means.
Some men block their ex themselves for this reason. Blocking is not weakness. It is a man removing a weapon he keeps using on himself. If she has handed you that for free, use it. For the mechanics of what silence does week by week, see does no contact work.
If a bad night starts to feel like more than a bad night, talk to a professional or call a local helpline.
What do you do with the 30 days instead?
Start the count on the day she blocked you. Your job is a daily list, done whether you feel like it or not: train, a ninety-minute block on your work or mission, sleep, food, and one evening with people you like. Tick it off each night.
Why not use this time to work out why she did it? Because the answer is usually older than the block. Breakups are almost never events. They are verdicts, and she decided weeks before the day she said it.

If you do not know which of the four verdicts is yours, the Reset Score test asks eight questions and tells you the first thing to do tonight. If you want the whole thirty days laid out, with the daily plan, it is in the 30-day protocol.
For the part where your head will not stop, how to stop thinking about her is the next one to read. And when you are ready to build the body and the life, the glow-up after a breakup for men is where to start.
You cannot control whether she comes back. Nobody can. You can control whether, in a month, you are a man she would be glad to hear from, and whether you are fine either way.
Questions men ask
Should I contact my ex from a different account if she blocked me?
No. A new account, a borrowed phone or a friend passing on a message is a workaround, and she will read it as one. It confirms the thing she blocked you to avoid. Stay silent and spend the energy on yourself.
Will my ex come back if she blocked me?
Nobody can honestly say. A block tells you where she is today, not where she will be in three months. What you can do is protect the version of you she would meet if she ever looked again.
Should I ask a friend to tell her I'm sorry?
No. Messages through friends count as contact, and the friend ends up in the middle. If you owe her an apology, the single closing message was the place for it. Once she has blocked you, that window is closed, and your behaviour from here is the better apology.
How long until she unblocks me?
Nobody knows, and you should not plan around it. Count thirty days from the day of the block, do the daily work, and treat an unblock as a nice surprise rather than a signal.
Stop guessing. Follow the plan.
